What is Restylane?
Restylane® is a family of injectable gel treatments made with hyaluronic acid. Called dermal fillers, these injectables are one of the best ways to restore volume and enhance features without surgery or downtime. There are many different formulations of Restylane available, so your dermatologist can help you select the right one for your goals and specific treatment areas.
Restylane works by attracting moisture in the skin when it’s injected. This causes the area to expand and provide better support to the skin and fill in areas of low volume. Restylane treatments are very popular for their natural and long-lasting results, making them a great way to boost your confidence.
What Can Restylane Treat?
- Hands
- Lip augmentation
- Acne scars
- Undereye bags
- Cheek augmentation
- Nasolabial lines
- Lip lines or smoker’s lines
- Marionette lines
Restylane is an alternative to Juvéderm®, another family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. There are benefits to each, and they can easily be combined with other treatments like BOTOX®, chemical peels, or IPL, so your board-certified dermatologist can help you determine the right treatment plan for you during your consultation.
What Happens During Treatment?
Restylane treatment is very quick and easy. Most patients don’t require a topical anesthetic during injection – Restylane injections are also formulated with lidocaine, a numbing agent. Once the area is cleansed, the product is placed under the skin with a very fine needle. You’ll see instant results with Restylane, so you and your injector can fine-tune your results before you leave.

Restylane Recovery and Results
There’s no downtime required after Restylane, although it’s best to avoid exercise, sweating, and hot temperatures for the first 24 hours. It can be helpful to massage the area to help the product settle, as well as use an ice pack for any discomfort. You can expect some redness and swelling for the first few hours after your appointment, but this subsides quickly. Make sure to wear SPF 30+ to protect against sun damage while your skin recovers.
It can take one to two weeks for your final results to settle in after Restylane treatment, so make sure to give yourself time before returning for touch-ups (if needed). Depending on your unique Restylane formulation, you can expect your results to last for one to two years.
