What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is a family of injectable treatments called dermal fillers. Juvéderm injectables are made with hyaluronic acid, a natural compound found in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for keeping your skin supple and holding moisture. When injected into the skin, it attracts water and expands, creating youthful volume.
Dermal fillers are a very popular cosmetic treatment option because of their natural-looking, long-lasting results. There are many different forms of Juvéderm available, and your dermatologist can determine the right one for you and your goals. Each one is made with a different formulation of hyaluronic acid, with options for softer or more viscous gel depending on your needs.
What Can Juvéderm Treat?
- Cheek augmentation
- Lip augmentation
- Undereye bags
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Lip lines and smoker’s lines
- Acne scars
Juvéderm is similar to Restylane®, another family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Juvéderm treatments can also be combined with other injectables like BOTOX® or skincare treatments like chemical peels for best results. During your consultation with our HD Med Spa team, you can determine which option is best for you.
What Happens During Treatment?
Juvéderm injections are very quick and easy – and they produce instant results. Juvéderm formulations include lidocaine, a numbing agent that helps ease discomfort during the injection process. Most patients can tolerate the process without a topical anesthetic. Once your treatment area has been cleansed, the product is placed under the skin with a very fine needle. Your injector will make sure your results look natural and subtle with a conservative approach.

Juvéderm Recovery and Results
There’s no downtime required after Juvéderm treatments, although it’s normal to have some minor redness and irritation at the injection sites for a few hours afterward. If you have discomfort (after lip augmentation, for example) you can ease it with an ice pack. It’s best to avoid exercise or hot environments for the first 24 hours. It can be helpful to massage the area to help the product meld with the skin, as well.
It’s normal for your results to look “over-filled” at first as the area swells. Make sure to allow at least two weeks for your final results to settle in before opting for more product. Depending on your unique Juvéderm treatment, you can expect your results to last between six months to one year.
